Easy Ministering Ideas

We can create easy ministering. I LOVE this new program! I believe it was completely inspired! It allows me to use some creativity as well as totally listen to the Spirit on behalf of my sisters. I am certainly NOT saying I have perfected this-just ask those I minister to! I love the freedom and challenge of asking Heavenly Father what they need and then listening for the answer. Sometimes it may not even be something they need-just something to brighten their day.

These ideas can be so simple.

One day I was in my garden cutting some fresh lavender. I had a lot! I tied a bow around a small bouquet for each and dropped it by their houses. Another day I made homemade biscuits (Jojo’s Biscuits) and fresh jam. I had way more than we would eat so I brought hot biscuits and fresh jam over. I text a lot. Just love to check in and see what they are up to. As sad as it is, a text is often easier to respond to than a call. Easy ministering.

Sometimes I will be thinking of a scripture and jot it down to text them. I always keep their names on the prayer roll as well. We all need extra prayers! Easy ministering.

Here are a few super easy ideas to jog your brain. As you continue to pray for those who you minister to the, the Spirit will clearly convey their needs. Act on the promptings and you will be blessed.

Why wait?

Why do  we sometimes put things off? I have decided that with all the social media we follow, we often feel that we have to live up to a certain expectation. That is not the case and it is not realistic. Many of us live in a world of adorable people, who dress cute, their homes look like Pinterest, they have perfect children, cook gourmet meals, etc. Or at least that seems to be the case-we rarely post when we are depressed, have a messy house, bad hair day! We need to stop. We need to recognize that we are all the same. We all have similar needs and desires. If I bring by a baggie of hot biscuits, I can guarantee that no one is going to think, “Dang, I wish she would have brought it by on a cute plate with a cute tag.” Not going to happen. Just be you. You were called by inspiration to minister to those people. Do it with love. Do it with sincerity. Just do it. Easy ministering.

A few weeks ago, I had a strong prompting to minister to someone who I was not “assigned” to serve but I love her. I brought over some of my freshly cut lavender and a note just expressing my appreciation for her. She is an amazing woman. As I rang the doorbell, she opened the door and seemed so happy to see me. She invited me in and we just talked for about an hour. When I left, I left with perspective, a greater love for the Lord and questions in my mind answered. I left with arms full of newly sewn baby blankets for my 2 new granddaughters and my heart fuller than it had been in a while. I went to serve and to show this wonderful widow the love that she had always shown me, and I returned home with so much more than just a good feeling inside. It was fulfilling for both and easy ministering!

One of my favorite quotes I found as I was preparing my farewell talk for my mission (28 years ago!) is by President Kimball:

Ministering made easy.

President Kimball: Ministering

This is exactly what happened to me when I went to visit my sweet friend. As I ministered to her, she ended up being the angel who met my needs.

We can’t do everything, but we can do something

Remember the story of the starfish?

A young girl was walking along a beach upon which thousands of starfish had been washed up during a terrible storm. When she came to each starfish, she would pick it up, and throw it back into the ocean. People watched her with amusement.

She had been doing this for some time when a man approached her and said, “Little girl, why are you doing this? Look at this beach! You can’t save all these starfish. You can’t begin to make a difference!”

The girl seemed crushed, suddenly deflated. But after a few moments, she bent down, picked up another starfish, and hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. Then she looked up at the man and replied, “Well, I made a difference to that one!”

The old man looked at the girl inquisitively and thought about what she had done and said. Inspired, he joined the little girl in throwing starfish back into the sea. Soon others joined, and all the starfish were saved.

We will not make a difference in every life we meet but we can make a difference in some. The Lord knows who those people are and will connect us somehow. In turn they will bless our lives…and so it goes. It is a reason for ministering.

Hopefully this will motivate all of us to be more kind, sincere, loving and most of all aware of the angels around us who can use our love. In doing so our lives will be blessed immeasurably! In following this program outlined by our prophet and apostles, we will learn to become more Christlike, to rely  by asking, listening and acting upon the promptings of the Holy Ghost. Our lives will be blessed as we help to bless other lives.
