I have been thinking a lot about the need to change lately. As I read in the scriptures, I feel like it pops up everywhere! I guess you see what you need to see. I pray constantly for people I love to have a “change of heart”, for my family to “change” how they clean the kitchen, or a daughter to “change” the way she is dressing. I want a teacher to “change” how they teach so my child can understand better and for a church leader to lead in the way I think it should be done! 🙂
As listened to President Oaks talk, the Spirit quietly chastened me and helped me to realize that I am the one that needs to do the changing. It is my heart, that needs to change, my soul that needs to love and forgive. We must be willing to change ourselves before we can expect that of anyone else. God is good. With His help, WE can change, become better, become like Him.
Change is necessary to make it back to live with God. If we do not allow ourselves to change, we will not grow. I have found myself recently praying and asking how I can change. Often those answers come in ways I do not like. Sometimes they come in the form of a trial, sometimes a comment by someone or something I read. There are times I ignore that “push” to change and times when I actively take part in doing it. I know that whatever we need to change, our attitude, our heart, our mind, that a loving Heavenly Father and Savior are there to help us in the best ways they know how.
Make change a part of your daily prayer. As you listen to Conference talks and read, scriptures; as you serve others and talk with people-the ways you need to change will become clear. I cannot say this process is fun, but it is teaching me and I am growing. I guess, in the end, that is what counts!
