Nut Free Granola recipe in under 30 minutes

Like 20 percent of adults in the U.S., I developed a peanut and tree nut allergy after the age of 18. Ever since then I have been on the hunt for a good granola that won’t kill me. I am yet to find one in stores, so I decided to make my own nut free granola. Or who knows, maybe you just don’t like nuts mixed into things. I know before my allergy I didn’t like them in sweets like cookies, cake, or muffins. SO if you were born with a nut allergy, like me and the other 800,000 americans, jump to the recipe and get started!

Reasons why you should make this Nut Free Granola recipe

Making your own granola in this case can not only save your life, but can also save your money. Take this Whole foods granola for example. It is 12 oz of granola for $5.29, that is $0.44 an oz. NOW let’s compare the price of making your own nut free granola.

This is the oat container I usually buy and it has 2 LARGE 64 oz bags of oats contained inside for only $10.39($0.08/oz). This recipe calls for 3 cups or 24 oz. of oats. From this large container that is $1.95.

Next we have the pumpkin seeds. I usually buy the large 22 oz. pack from costco that, but it is currently out of stock on amazon, so here is the smaller bag. The 22 oz. bag is $12.99 or $0.59 an oz.

Following that we have coconut flakes that are $0.54/oz.

Lastly let’s calculate the maple syrup. I use a pure organic kind for this recipe such as, THIS ONE, but I have also used log cabin in a pinch. Maple syrup is $22.95 or $0.72/fl oz. The recipe calls for 1 cup.

  • Oats $1.95
  • Pumpkin seeds $2.36
  • Coconut flakes $4.32
  • Maple Syrup $5.76

Grand Total: $14.39 for roughly 64 oz. of granola. That means we are making nut free granola at about $0.22 an ounce vs. The whole foods example of $0.44 an ounce.

Isn’t that awesome!? Just by making your own granola, you quite literally cut the price in HALF! So, if you are looking for more ways to save on your grocery bill each month, visit my blog post and learn a trick or two to help you save.

IN CONCLUSION

This Nut Free Granola Recipe has more benefits than I originally thought. IF you make this recipe, you will save money, eat healthy, AND not die of anaphylactic shock. That sounds like a WIN:WIN:WIN in my book! My favorite thing to pair this granola with is Chobani Cherry Greek Yogurt (ESPECIALLY with the chocolate added). The chocolate, cherry, and salty-sweet flavor of this granola just complement each other so well it’s almost as good as ice cream.
